Visiting the Delaware Senate and House

Students from our 8th grade went to Dover yesterday to share their experience in using technology in the classroom before both chambers of the state legislature.

Aaron and Dalton set up a display about wikis, blogs and protopage  and answered questions about technology. Danielle and William spoke before both houses of the legislature telling them how important it was to continue to support the role of technology in our classrooms.  They also got to tour the State of Delaware Archives.

Thurman Adams, Joe Booth and Gary Simpson met with us to discuss our crucial issue!  This small student delegation was funded by the Delaware Center for Educational Technology (DCET). Mariner 8th graders and teachers should be proud of this effort!

  1. I want to thank Mrs. Albanese, Aaron, Dalton, and especially Danielle and William for participating in the First State First Rate: Classroom Technology Showcase at Legislative Hall last Wednesday. Mariner Middle School and the Cape Henlopen School District should be proud of how well they represented all of you. Danielle and William presented to both the House and the Senate on how they (and you) use technology. They did an OUTSTANDING job! Congratulations, on a job well done!

I would guess that most of our Legislators really didn’t know what a wiki, blog, or Protopage was before the presentation, but because of the presentation, your “What is a WIKI?” handout, and your Wikimasters business cards, you were able to educator our Legislators!

Keep up the good work! Go Vikings!

  2. I would agree with Dr. Hartschuh in congratulating all of you on this outstanding project. You are taking Cape to the next level, and you have no idea how legislators can be influenced by the student success they see. By educating them you are making a major contribution to your school and community. THANK YOU!!!
    Dr. Stone
